One driving reason to remodel this bathroom was the need for a handicap accessible shower. The normal curb just wasn’t going to do it. Both homeowners are retired military and had several injuries that made it difficult to get in and out of the shower. My goal was to make this a moot point.
This bathroom started off as a tough one because the tile floor would need to be matched, which can be a big challenge. Fortunately, we were able to do this. We also gave the shower a trench drain. The reason for a trench drain is that the tile on the shower floor remains in a flat plane, making it the best surface for consistent footing, and easy for wheel chair access in the shower.
We made some other improvements to the bathroom, such as incorporating Quartz counter tops and rotated the bathtub to the side to gain more shower room. This made it possible to build in a bench in the shower.
